MOUNTAINEERING IN NEPAL

Foreword
Nepal has eight of the world’s fourteen highest mountain peaks. It is the
home to some of the highest, most rugged and difficult terrain in the world. The
highest peak in the world-Mount Everest (Sagarmatha) and other high peaks

like Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho-Oyu, Dhaulagiri Manaslu and
Annapurna and the presence of some beautiful trekking routes, attract hundreds
of thousands of people from all over the world to this lovely Himalayan
destination.
The Government of Nepal has opened 326 peaks for the mountaineering
activities among its numerous peaks. Ever since the country was first open to
climbers in 1949, Nepal has become a great theatre of mountaineering
activities. The Government of Nepal is very sincere to preserve the Himalayas
of Nepal and request to all the mountaineers and trekkers to take nothing but
Photographs and Leave nothing but footprints in the Mountain.

Here, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation is pleased to
publish “Mountaineering in Nepal Facts and Figures 2013”.It covers the
information about the mountaineering in Nepal, the name of the heroes who
successfully took their footprints on the top of the Mount Everest and other
mountain.
The publication also includes the list of opened peaks for
mountaineering and the unclimbed peaks up to 2012. I think the information
included in this publication will be useful to all thriller seekers, adventure
lovers, researchers, planners and policy makers who involved in tourism sector.
Finally, I would like to thank all those who have been involved in
bringing this publication in its present form. The Ministry of Culture, Tourism
and Civil Aviation always welcomes constructive comments and suggestions
for improving this publication in the future.

richness. The snow capped mountains, white water river and their quiet Basins,
green valleys and beautiful landscapes, antique cities with fine arts and crafts,
smiling friendly people and their simple, pleasant fascinating folk ways. This
attractive land of nature and culture always offers unique pleasures for all
tourists; visitors, trekkers, scholars, philosophers, litterateurs and those thrust
for new experience Shangri-La.
Nepal is a land for all seasons. During whole year you can enjoy varieties
of things; visit the place, site seen, Trekking, Mountaineering, White water
rafting, biking, Paragliding, Heli-ski, Bungee jumping, Rock climbing,
Cannoning and Jungle safaris. In all months of the year there are colorful
festivals which are delighting, vividness and well preserved.

Nepal is known as the land of Himalayas /snow capped huge mountains
, east to west about 800 km across with Eight peak above 8000meter ,including
top of the world Mt. Everest, known as Sagarmatha,Third pole . Government
of Nepal has opened 326 peaks for mountaineering activities among
thousands of snow covered mountains. Since the country was opened to
international climbers in 1949 Himalayas has becoming the centre of joy for
mountaineering activities ,provided impetus to more people to visit the ultimate
mountain. It has already been the Sixty years of the First summit of Mount
Everest. The Government of Nepal is celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of first
Ascent of Mount Everest in this Year 2013.

Government of Nepal has given top priority to the tourism sector. In this
publication we are trying to include the name of great personalities who
successfully took their foot prints by herculean tasks on the top of the World,
Mount Everest, and other top mountains. Let us visit and make Himalaya’s
Symbol of peace, fraternity and spot for welfare of humankind. Your Valuable
